Randy Barracuda

* full gear live set

* presented by Antidote + 87fei87

@ Shelter Shanghai - Friday, June 27

@ Dada Beijing - Saturday, June 28

Finnish producer Randy Barracuda may be the Jimi Hendrix of nomenclature cheek. He has fired off such choice cuts as “Rick James Is Dead,” the curiously naughty sounding “Skweee Like a Pig”—“skweee” being the genre tag given Barracuda’s and other Scandinavian producers’ brand of R&B-ish breakbeats—and the dizzying “Ketamine Strut.”

Better still is how this verbal playfulness telegraphs his music’s puckish hybridization. Never merely lock-step techno or ambient electro, never settling for mining disco beats for a retro sheen or chasing synth sounds to give his tracks a futuristic patina, Barracuda’s tracks have actual hooks and hummable melodies, but he pockets them inside production work as artfully awkward and sophisticated as it is pop satisfying.

Performing live on analogue synths and a classic Roland 808, every moment of Randy Barracuda's live show is perfect sonic bliss.

Russia's Pixelord, 813, Saburov

Friday, May 9 @ Shelter, Shanghai
Saturday, May 10 @ Dada, Beijing

The Antidote presents - Pixelord, 813, Saburov
[Moscow / Hyperboloid Records Tour 2014]

We brought out Pixelord and Saburov a few years ago for a brief China tour, and it was one of our favorite bookings over the years. This time around, we've added another Russian hot-shot producer 813 [Diplo's Mad Decent, Fools Gold Records] to the line up.

They've played everywhere from Berghain to ♬∞ , but this tour is taking them from Moscow thru Siberia, then down thru Asia, including Bangkok, Beijing and Shanghai.

These guys are making some of our favorite records recently -- a mysterious bright shiny futuristic bass music genre called #internetghetto that draws comparisons to Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Burial, and other twisted pop, but distinctly their own.

This is going to be ridiculous and awesome -- BAM!

DJs Ayo-Yen and Drunk Monk play support in Shanghai.

DJs Ozone and Shackup play support in Beijing.

Wednesday, Oct.16 @ Drop, Hong Kong
Friday, Oct. 18 @ The Shelter, Shanghai
.... Saturday, Oct. 19 @ Dada Bar, Beijing ....
Sunday, Oct. 20 @ Nanchang Festival

The Antidote presents... JON KENNEDY [UK].

Jon Kennedy [Tru Thoughts, Grand Central] is a major player in the UK's trip hop scene -- on radio, curating festivals, and rocking dance floors from Manchester to Budapest. His productions are in the vein of DJ Shadow, but as a DJ he takes crowds on a journey of eclectic sounds.

Working professionally in the music industry for the last 13 years, Jon has released 5 LP's on some of the UK's best underground labels. Namely Tru Thoughts Recordings and Manchester-based Grand Central Records. He has remixed over 25 artists from Barclay James Harvest, Marcus Intalex, Fila Brazilia, Ugly Duckling, Bonobo, Quantic, 70's legends Piblokto, Bob Marley and re-worked the soundtrack from classic cult film 'Withnail & I'. He continues to be prolific with 9 remixes being completed in 2012 alone. Touring the globe as a DJ and Live Band outfit, he visits most major city's on the planet every weekend and has reached audiences as far away as New York, St Petersburg, Reykjavik, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila & Hanoi. Recent tours include Japan, Europe and USA where Jon will be retruning this year to connect via his music.

With his new LP "Corporeal" in tow and a bagfull of remixes of this newly released work lined up, we bait our breath in anticipation of the most elegant of DJ Sets to unfold.

It is with great pleasure and pride that we are welcoming Tim Sweeney of the legendary Beats In Space radio show, which celebrated it's 14th year this week.

In his early years Tim Sweeney worked with hip hop legend Steinski and when coming aboard the DFA Records crew, he went touring with James Murphy and released several mix albums. The Beats In Space radio show began in the fall of 1999 and has not missed a week since then. The radio show is mixed live by Tim Sweeney and friends in New York City on WNYU 89.1 every Tuesday night from 10:30pm to 01:00am.

Double Happiness, Yo Banfa and 390 Shanghai have teamed up to present this NYC dance music icon at 390. Over the last 14 years, Sweeney has built Beats in Space into an iconic brand. In return, BIS launched Sweeney's career as one of New York's most sought-after DJs.

14 years ago, Sweeney was an 18-year-old student at NYU, hosting a radio show on an obscure frequency late at night. The show was a genre-breaking format, showcasing the best dance music - whether disco, new wave, Chicago house, minimal techno, Krautrock, funk and soul, or post-punk - found anywhere in the world, anytime in history.

Armed with this vision, Sweeney began pulling in heavy-hitting guest DJs on BIS, and quickly attracted a strong international following for the diverse range of artists and styles on his playlists. The list reads like a dance music who's who: James Murphy, Carl Craig, Todd Terje, Laurent Garnier, Juan Atkins, Diplo, Plaid, Optimo, Trevor Jackson, Mike Simonetti, Maurice Fulton, Erol Alkan, Jacques Renault, Michael Mayer, Metro Area, Horse Meat Disco, Daniel Wang, DJ Harvey, Ashley Beedle, and on and on and on....

That's good enough for us. But if you're not convinced have a listen to this:

And here are some pictures from our last party, Horse Meat Disco in July at 390:

See? Hot Parties, Big Fun is no lie.

Thanks for reading, see you. x

Dada Shanghai 4-Year Birthday

It's Dada Bar Shanghai's 4 year anniversary.

Friday, Aug.23, 2013.

We're going to celebrate with our usual antics -- spontaneity, interactivity, mystery, surprise, and unabashed lack of advanced planning. Who's DJing? Find out when you get there! What kind of music? Oh, WTF, who knows what it's called these days. Will there be
dancing girls? Maybe, but we have no control over that. Will there be drink specials? Our drinks are always special. Will there be games to play, or sweet treats given out? Oh, totally yes!

Free entry. Doors at 8pm. Bring your friends.
